Review & Giveaway – Qubo Gift Basket

Review & Giveaway – Qubo Gift Basket

I was recently asked to review a children’s programming channel – Qubo – and give away a gift basket to a lucky reader.  I was intrigued because I am fed up with the preteen crud my kids are currently watching on the other kids channels (not to be named, but may include a state north of CO).

I was hoping to learn about a new channel that would be more kid friendly and with this description, it caught my attention:

The topic of what kids should watch and how much of it is highly debatable, but the truth is kids do watch TV, and when it’s the Qubo Channel ( parents can feel okay about it. The TV channel with the quirky name is one that every parent and child should know about, especially since it’s free on basic cable.

I received my items to review a few days ago and had to use the mommy voice to stop my kids from immediately tearing into the items that were included.  You know the voice I’m talking about?  The one that drops a few octaves and is projected so well that children on the entire block pause for a moment to make sure it’s not directed at them?

One of the items included in my package (that will not be in the gift package) was a jump drive with some of the programming available on Qubo.  I played it and was pretty impressed with the lineup they have – my favorites are:

  • The Magic School Bus
  • Animal Exploration
  • Jane and the Dragon
  • Babar

but this is just a few of the shows they offer.   Go here for the complete lineup.

Unfortunately, it turns out Qubo isn’t available in our area of Colorado from any of the local providers.   You can check to see if it is available near you here.  In that same link,  you can request your provider to start carrying it too.  I did play around with zip codes and found out that AT&T does carry it, so if they are your provider, then find the channel and let us know what you think!

I’m a little bummed we don’t get this channel, but the gifts we’re giving away cheered me up!

The giveaway includes:

  1. Qubo-branded cinch pack (we use these for soccer all the time)
  2. Beach towel with characters (fits over your chair so won’t slide down)
  3. Silly Bands
  4. Notebook (with graph paper inside)
  5. Colorful jump rope
  6. Character game/puzzle on a key ring

To enter you must answer these questions (please answer both in the same comment):

  • What is your favorite childhood TV show?
  • What current TV show do you think offers the best content for children?

For extra entries (please leave a comment for each):

The giveaway will run through Sunday – April 10th at midnight.  The winner will be selected using and will be notified via email.

Good Luck!

Thank you everyone for entering.  The winner is Adalia!

If you didn’t win (or even if you did) please enter my current giveaway of a 3 month membership to JumpStart.

  1. My favorite show growing up was Little House on the Prairie.

Now, I try to limit tv but they really like watching Noggin.

  2. My favorite TV show growing up was the Muppet Show and Sesame Street. I think Electric Company and Wild Kratts provide good content for my 6 year old.

  3. So fun! Definitely grew up on Sesame Street… Mr. Rogers, Fred Penner… Price is Right, haha :)

Now, I’m happy letting Gretchen watch a little Yo Gabba, some Franklin, Arthur…

  4. When I was a child I liked to watch The Jetsons.

My kids like to watch nick jr. which some of it is fine and they do learn things so I think nick jr. is a good channel.

  5. I loved Reading Rainbow!

I know a lot of people might disagree with me but the Disney Junior lineup, particularly Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is great for my son. He interacts with it so much and talks back to the show, dances and counts along. He has learned his shapes from it!

  6. I loved the Andy Griffith show when I was a kid. Today, there isn’t a lot out there that I like my kids to watch, but we do enjoy several of the shows on the Food Network, when we sit down and watch together. They also watch old, classic movies like the original Cheaper by the Dozen or Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.

  7. I remember watching The Magic School Bus quite a bit and Beakman’s World!

I think I would have to say of current kid’s shows, I would have to pick Fresh Beat Band because it gets kids excited about music but they are always go go go so it keeps my girls up and moving!

  8. I loved the smurfs when i was little.

My current favorite show seems to change from week to week but right now I really like Dinosaur Dan
