Empty the Trunk – Starting Couch to 5K

Couch to 5KBetween camping (and associated junk food) plus a 3 day soccer tournament in Ft Collins, I was not surprised that I didn’t lose weight this week.  Back to the yo-yo.   But, one of the good things that came out of this week is that I figured out how to combine quality time with my kids, coaching them in soccer, accountability, and losing weight with a little “me” time thrown in all with one activity!

Soccer Coach

My daughter (9) and now my son  (7) (as of 10 min ago when he realized Jaeda and I were doing something without him) – are going to do the Couch to 5K program together.   They are both in soccer and since it’s the start of the season there is a little conditioning needed for them to be able to last the entire game without being winded.  That’s the coaching soccer part.

Quality Time

Well, we are going to do this program together and then run a 5k together at the end.  Pretty good bonding I think!

Accountability

Have you ever told your kids you were going to do something and then sat down at the computer to write a post?  Hmm, let’s just say that they’ve interrupted me 3 times already to ask if we are going yet.  There won’t be any avoiding these drill sergeants!   Which is exactly what I need to get my lazy butt in gear.

Me Time

Pop my ipod on and start walking is pretty great “me time”.  It’s not quiet time exactly, but it is a time when a million things aren’t necessarily going through my head and I can take a mental break.  We’ll see how this works with bonding with the kids – but I’m optimistic there is a decent balance there somewhere.

How’d I do this week?

  • I gained 1.8 lbs.
  • Total weight loss = +0.4 pounds.
  • First goal = Lose 10 pounds (10.4 to go)

Goals for this Week

My goals for this week include:

  • exercise 3 times
  • lose 2 pounds
  • Start Couch to 5K

So, far I haven’t won the 10 week fitness challenge, but it is definitely motivating and we have 4 winners already!  Kristina @ Racing and Saving Mama won again this week after being challenged by Jennifer @ Jenerally Speaking.  But I am vowing to give them both some competition this week!

  1. You go!!! Support is so important. I’m running 12 5Ks this year. 1 for every month leading up to my 40th b-day. For a couple of the races I’m have friends and family members joining me and it has been so fun planning my monthly races with everyone.

    • That is awesome!! I’ve never run a 5K before. I ran that distance (once) in college. I detest running, but love the results and need to get in shape. I like that the program tells me exactly what to do in bite size steps. Granted they did not give me a warning to force my 3 year old to stay home rather than follow on her bike (not that easy to keep her caught up with us) – but I guess they can’t cover everything. ;)

  2. I think you’re going to smoke me this week. I ate horribly today and my ankles are about the size of tractor tires. I guess I have the week to pull it together! :) I know you’re going to do the couch 2 5k plan!! I’m doing a 5k mud run this Saturday called the warrior dash.
