As you know, my kids and I recently started the Couch to 5K running program. I asked my kids if they wanted to do this exercise program with me for a variety of reasons, but the one I didn’t mention, the one that is most important to me, is my desire to give my kids a foundation of exercise and fitness. There are tons of studies linking exercise to positive benefits such as longer life spans, fighting depression, reducing stress, higher self esteem, and plenty more.
We likely agree that kids need to exercise – if for no other reason than to wear them out so that moms can keep their sanity! But should they be exercising in school or should exercise be saved for an after school activity? The trend seems to be to eliminate exercise from schools. The increased emphasis on standardized test scores and the cuts to school budgets have created a trend of removing recess and PE from the school curriculum and focusing that time and those resources on learning.
You’re shooting yourself in the foot if you take away PE because you say students need to study.
Your brain simply works better when you exercise.
I believe strongly in education, supporting our kids, and keeping our kids active. Therefore, I was thrilled to learn that Dannon and their Danimals products are getting behind a campaign to support exercise and recess in our kids’ schools. Their program is called Rally for Recess and through it, they will be giving away $20,000 for playground makeovers to five schools.
You can help your school win by entering codes found on Rally for Recess marked Danimals products. The school with the most points in each division will win the prize. And this is a totally attainable goal! The leaders so far only have 40 to 120 points depending on group. If even a small portion of your school’s families entered codes, your school could skyrocket to the top in no time.
Codes can be found on all the Danimals items:
*Coupons can be found in the 8.14 Smartsource ($0.50/1) and in the King Soopers School Days Mailer $1/1.
My kids love all of these products and we buy them all of the time. I buy the smoothies most often because they make a great snack or breakfast that is quick and is healthier than many of the other options. I never have to fight my kids to eat them, in fact I bought 3 packs yesterday and we are already down to only 1 and 1/2!
The older kids especially like the crush cups, but I don’t like the mess. They are intended to be eaten without spoons which makes my kids very happy, but just seems messy to me. I cave to the pressure every once in a while though.
The coolision is yogurt in a tube and can be eaten frozen or from the fridge. It is two flavors that are intended to be eaten at the same time – therefore, colliding in your mouth. My older kids love this and manage quite well, my 3 yo can’t quite seem to get the idea of eating both at the same time and instead eats each side one at a time.
I will definitely be buying some more Danimals and entering my codes in Rally for Recess. I’d buy them even without the Rally incentive, but this just makes it even better.
Have you tried Danimals? If so, what’s your favorite?
