I finished all 3 days of Couch to 5K (Week 5) this week. It was tough!
Up until this week, the running program for each day of the week was the same. For example Day 1, Day 2 and Day 3 of Week 1 included jogging for 60sec alternated with walking for 90sec for a total of 20min.
Week 5 totally tricked me by shaking that system all up.
- Day 1 – jog 5min – walk 3min – jog 5min – walk 3min – jog 5min
- Day 2 – jog 8min – walk 5min – jog 8min
- Day 3 – jog 20min
I aced Day 1 – no breaks during any of the 5min segments!
Day 2 was tougher and although I managed the first 8min, I took a break halfway through the 2nd one.
Day 3 I woke up with a headache and stuffy nose, but went out anyway. Although I managed 10min nonstop, I took 5 breaks during the last 10min section.
Although I didn’t manage to complete the Week 5 program exactly like prescribed, I do feel like I finally have the exercise part of getting fit and losing weight under control. The telling me exactly what to do system of Couch to 5K is really working for me. While I’m taking it a little more slowly than the 9 weeks the program is intended to cover – I do really like having a virtual coach that is pushing me and telling me what to do to build up my stamina and muscles. I intend to repeat Week 5 and am fairly confident by the end of this week I’ll be on track with completing the segments without break.
While the exercise portion of my fitness journey is going pretty well – I am clearly not doing as well with reducing my calories. I’ve ultimately gained weight after vacillating up and down over the past few months. Which is why I am thrilled to announce that I have been selected to be a Nutrisystem blogger! I am hoping that having a program that tells me exactly what to do – like Couch to 5K has been doing, will help me finally get my portions and food selections under control. As a Nutrisystem blogger, I will be provided with 4 months of food and support at no charge in exchange for me blogging weekly about my progress.
I haven’t received my food yet – but I did place my order. I decided to start with the favorites package. There were so many choices that I didn’t even know where to start – so having a package already selected that includes Nutrisystem users’ favorites was perfect for me. I will receive 10 days of frozen meals and 18 days of pantry ready selections.
Off the bat there are a few things that I am excited about that I think will really work for me.
- Nutrisystem provides some meals – which will help me with portion control. But I am supposed to supplement with groceries – therefore getting me to change my purchasing habits as well as my eating ones.
- The Nutrisystem dietitians are available to answer any questions I have at any time – therefore helping me get more food savvy and learn to make better choices.
- The twitter and facebook pages are extremely active and responsive with supporting and motivating interaction.
I’m a little concerned about how I’ll manage to cook for my family while having separate meals for me, but hopefully we’ll be able to work it in and it won’t feel strange to have a different meal than everyone else.
Overall I am excited to get started and can’t wait to see if Nutrisystem is going to be the solution for my weight loss. I am ready to lose these pounds!
- I lost 2.0 lbs.
- Total weight loss = -1.6 pounds.
- First goal = Lose 10 pounds (8.4 to go)
Goals for this Week
