It was the summer between 6th and 7th grade. I was at the YMCA summer camp. The YMCA sleep away summer camp. Not only sleep away, but part of our activities included 3 days canoeing down the Suwannee River, camping along the way.
Can you picture my absolute mortification? I got my period away from home, with kids I didn’t know – boys were there, of course I hadn’t packed pads or tampons since I hadn’t ever gotten my period before. PLUS I had to spend 3 days in a bathing suit, camping and burying our “waste” along the way.
It was less than ideal circumstances, but I
am only moderately scarred survived.
Can you imagine being in those circumstances every time you have your period? That is what millions of girls in developing countries face. They don’t have access to sanitary supplies, they are embarrassed to go to school (often skipping school due to lack of supplies),and simply have to make do with little to no support.
How You Can Help
The o.b.® Brand and Huru® International have teamed up to help these girls. Huru has developed kits with reusable sanitary items, information, etc. that they distribute to women globally. Each kit is approximately $25, so they are raising $25,000 to enable them to distribute 1,000 kits. Now, through December 5th, for every person that participates in o.b.’s Share it Forward program, o.b. will donate $1 to the fund.
Step 1: Like the mighty.small.movement Facebook Page. If not on the tab already, click the o.b. Outreach Tab.

Oh, and I’d love if you’d comment with your period horror story! Anyone have a story worse than mine?
