Elizabeth lives in Kenya and has supported her family (4 children) by renting out homes and raising dairy cattle. The average annual income in Kenya is $1,445. To buy a dairy cow to continue to support her family costs $525 – a third of the average annual income.
Elizabeth is not asking for charity. She doesn’t want anyone to give her the money. All she asking is for a loan. We take our ability to get loans for granted – a car loan, a house loan, a credit card loan. It isn’t as easy in developing countries.
Via Kiva.org, I am able to loan Elizabeth money $25 to help her finance a dairy cow. Elizabeth is the 7th mom I’ve helped via Kiva.org.
I highly recommend this program and know a lot of people are looking for worthy charities during the holidays. Please consider Kiva.org and if it looks appealing, consider joining the Moms Helping Moms Team. It doesn’t take anything away from you, just tracks the impact we are making as a group.
