Weight Loss Weigh In

My weight loss weigh in for 1/23/2012 to 2/26/2012.

Weight Loss Reset

I’ve been struggling with my weight loss motivation lately (starting with the holidays).  I’ve not been really committed to losing weight or getting fit, and have been halfheartedly going through the motions.  I want to be fit and I want to be comfortable wearing shorts this summer, but the drive to stick to an eating plan and an exercise plan has been missing.

So, I decided to take a mental hiatus from the weight loss effort.   This past month I haven’t been watching my eating habits or exercising.    Mostly I did this in an effort to jump start my motivation again.  But partly I’ve been feeling guilty that you may think Nutrisystem doesn’t work if you look to my results as an example.  And that’s not fair to Nutrisystem. When I follow the plan, I average 3.5 lbs lost per week.   That is awesome!  I just haven’t been sticking to the plan very well – that whole missing motivation thing.

You’d think that I’d just suck it up and stick to the program until I lost the weight.  At 3.5 pounds per week, I would see significant changes in just a few weeks.  But I haven’t.  And I can suppose till the cows come home about why I haven’t just done it already.  But it doesn’t really matter.  What matters is what am I going to do going forward?

At 3 lbs per week, it will take me 7 weeks to lose 21 pounds.  And I really want to lose that much at a minimum before shorts season.  We are already at the end of February.  Seven weeks puts me dangerously close to the beginning of May before I lose that first 20 pounds – and I have 70 to lose to reach my goal weight.

What does all this mean?  I don’t have time to indulge myself in missing motivation!   So here’s what I’m going to do.

  1. I am going to follow the Nutrisystem plan.
  2. I am going to run 3 days a week in training for the 5K in April.
  3. I am going to kick myself in the butt and get this weight off!!

  1. Daria,

You can do this! We all need a mental break sometimes to look at stuff from a new perspective. It can help us gain insight into what we are missing or find new motivation! maybe this is a new beginning for you. I hope it works. Good Luck. Take it one day at a time. Oh, and the no alcohol, you are a better woman than me. I gave up wine for Lent but that is as far as it goes. :-)

  2. Hi – have been following your blog and your weight loss efforts for a while now. Don’t give up! I am really bad at getting my exercise in every week myself. One thing that helps me, is to meet up with a friend to go walking/running (fixed day and time every week no matter what the weather is!!), or to sign up for a class at the gym. A little peer pressure goes a long way. Good luck, you can do it. O, and I also find that I have less appetite after exercise, it seems I want to eat a light and healthy meal after a gym visit. Maybe try to plan exercise before dinner on a day when that fits into your schedule (see supermom)?

  3. Hi Anne,

Thanks so much for following and for commenting too. I really do need some motivation and encouragement. Yes, I definitely need to commit to something. I am thinking about joining a team – maybe volleyball or soccer and having that keep me motivated. Also I start a new job soon and am going to look into the gyms nearby – maybe a new routine will help.

You are so right about the exercise helping with appetite. It also does wonders for my self confidence and “take on the world” attitude. Even if I mess up on the food, I am going to really try to stick to the running 3x a week.

Great tips and reminders. Thank you!

How are you doing with your weight loss/exercise? Any long or short term goals I can help encourage you with?

    • My goals are towards being fit, and eating healthy – weight is not an issue. Ever since becoming a mom (almost 6 years ago), I have found it hard to find time to exercise and get fit (or generally find time for myself). Every new year I make a resolution to do better. I am one of those people who crowd the gym in the beginning of the year and then disappear.. :) So now it’s March and I’m still doing pretty well – let’s see if I can keep it up this year :)

Weight loss does interest me since my hubby struggles with that. I like to read what others are experiencing so I can support him.
