Week 5 Report (6/24 to 6/30)

This is a few days past my typical Sunday weigh in, but I did warn you I’d be late in last week’s post.  Oh My!  Have I been busy!  First I had my 9 to 5 job, plus an event with Tillamook and D Bar Desserts last Wednesday, then flew out for the Type-A Conference on Thursday, returning Monday night, up early Tuesday morning getting back to work and up to speed on how my kids’ weekend went camping with Coleman.

Phew!  I’m exhausted just typing it.   The conference was AMAZING – I will post about it soon.  Promise.

Weight Loss

I didn’t expect to lose weight last week due to my trip to Charlotte and having a hunch I would throw my good eating out the window for the duration of the trip.  However, before I went I made sure to get in 2 days of running my Couch to 5K program and had every intention of exercising at least once while at the conference.

Did you catch that?  Every intention.

I bet you know what happened, right?  I didn’t exercise.

But, but, but…

All those but’s are how my butt got so big in the first place.

To be fair I packed my sneakers, ipod, and workout clothes and committed to working out at least once to justify the space my shoes took up in my suitcase.   But (yes, I hear it too) the YMCA was closed on Sunday – the only day we had any sort of down time during the entire conference.  So, no, I didn’t get a workout in.

I did eat fairly well during the day at least, but did allow some poorer choices in the evenings – although tasty!   After all, who turns down creme brulee?  It’s my absolute weakness every time.

Actually I do know who turns it down – women that are at the weight they want!  Remember that old slogan “Just say NO.”  Simple really, but (yes, I hear it again) I didn’t deny myself.   And it showed.

My Weekly Results

For 6/17 through 6/26.

  • Last Week’s Weight – 209.6
  • Week 5 Results – plus 2.4
  • Current Weight – 212.0
  • Total Loss – 11.0 lbs

Yes, hanging my head in shame.  On the bright side, I get to experience the excitement of breaking that 210 barrier again!

Ugh.  It gets better.

True Story:

Remember that naked feeling I told you about after I posted my real weight?  You can imagine just how naked I felt when I met two people in real life this past week that asked me how Week 5 was going.  Apparently more than 3 people read my blog and they KNOW how much I weigh!!  Yikes!  Why, oh why, did I put those numbers out there!?!

Deep breath.

I remember.  It was to motivate me to get that number lower so I wouldn’t be so embarrassed.  I have to admit I am feeling uncomfortable and that it is pushing me to try harder.

So, I suppose my negotiating with myself is working.  I wonder if this is the same as putting my inner fat kid on a street corner with a big sign telling the world what I did wrong.  Have you see those kids with those signs?  They call it embarrassment discipline I think.  Not sure how I feel about it, but if it’s anything like writing my real weight publicly, then I think it’s probably effective.

By the way, last week I added some basic food tips and said I’d do exercise tips this week, but I am going to do them Sunday instead.  If you have any, please include them in the comments and I’ll add them to the next post.

How did you do?  Please leave a comment saying if you met your goals Yes/No for entry into the weekly drawing.

Comments will be open until Wednesday.

  1. This week I committed to walking 2 miles each day. I started on Sunday, June 24 and I am SO excited to say that I have met my goal so far this week. I’m doing a 15-minute mile and I feel great. Thanks for being my inspiration, Daria! And congrats to all the winners!

    • Yay Lori!! Are you walking a 15 min mile? That’s impressive! I can barely jog that speed, granted I am walking/jogging when I do it, but if you are walking it that is not a meandering around gazing at flowers kinda walk. That’s booking it!

  2. SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!! I am late posting, but even while traveling to Atlanta all last week, and many business dinners, I did manage to follow my Points Plus and lost 3 pounds. AND worked out 4 times.

For this week, (23-29), just more of the same. Stick to the diet, and get in a minimum of 3 1-hour workouts on either the treadmill, or the elliptical. And I am back on the road again this week…

    • LOL – I can’t share the other sayings here, but you totally made me laugh and all of our new “office speak” ran through my head. :)

Congratulations on the loss! So glad to hear Weight Watchers is working so well for you.

  3. I exercised 3x last week. Failed miserable in my water drinking attempt. Weighed in and ta-da! had lost 3 lbs. Wowza.
Hope to exercise 1 or 2 times more before Sunday.

      • Daria,
I wish I had some tips. My exercise has been non-existent with this biking/health problem, but I have been eating less….not feeling as hungry I suppose, without the exercise. It’s also been hot and humid here and they’re warning about being outdoors, let alone exercising. This week will be like being in the tropics, so I’ll have to see about what I can do.
        That’s really all I’ve got. ;)

  4. I did horribly horrible last week. I didn’t meet any goals AT ALL and I gained 2.6 lbs. It was terrible!
These are my goals for this week:
exercise 3x other than running (I am going to include some sort of strength training in this)
vitamins (seriously, third week’s a charm, right??)
100 situps and as many pushups as I can (which is sadly only about 15) . . . at least 4 times this week

    • So sorry Cathy – sometimes we need bad weeks to help get our motivation back up and focus (or so I tell myself :) – I love the 100 situps and pushups idea – a friend, Samantha recommended that and I find it’s helpful. I can’t do very many at a time, but doing a few throughout the day helps and I find I am sore which means it’s working right?

Do you do “girly” pushups or straight legged ones? I am only going for the knee ones at this point…

      • I do the “girly” pushups, although I have been adding the straight legged ones here and there. I can’t do very many of either, and even less of the straight legs. :-)

  5. Hey everyone! Update time. I am doing better. All 35 of my staples are out. Good news from doc. I am healing well and the report came back nothing to worry about in the part of the surgery we were worried about. Thank God. I still cannot drive for another week but other than that I go back in 2 weeks. I can return to work after July 15th. I still have not gained more than 1.5 lbs so I am thrilled. Hope you are all doling well too!

    • Such great news! You are doing so well with minimizing the impact this surgery and inability to exercise has on your weight. Doing great Cyn!

  6. I just stopped by to say Hi but now want to say something more like, ‘You go girl!’

Good seeing you again although for me it might have been a pricey night. I thought I was OK with my current phone but now I’m not so sure; wait…now I’m sure I’m not!

I wanted to tell you I made that Lemon Drop martini but feel a bit guilty seeing as how you are on a weight loss challenge. How about if I make one for you after you reach a certain goal…would that be fair?

    • Oh my gosh, that Lemon Drop Martini looked sinful! Especially with the vanilla beans added – will you add the link in the comments please? I have no qualms about using that as a motivator for meeting my next goal. :) I SO want to try it.

And thanks for stopping by Barb! Great to see you again this week… :)
