Weight Loss Results

  • Last Week’s Weight – 211.0
  • Week 7 Results – minus 3.0
  • Current Weight – 208.0
  • Total Loss – 15.0 lbs

I’ve lost 15 pounds!

That’s an entire cat or even a shih tzu.

Or two babies.

Or 60 quarter pound burgers!

Yes, I know I have plenty more to go, but I am going to celebrate this milestone.

I can’t really say that I’ve noticed feeling any lighter on my feet, but 6.7% of my body weight is gone.  My first goal was 10 pounds and I got my red Nutrisystem Bear as reward, now I’ve hit my second goal – 15 pounds and am only a few pounds away from hitting 20 pounds lost.

Have I mentioned how much I like seeing the scale go down instead of up?

How I Lost 15 Pounds

As you may know, I have been fortunate enough to be working with Nutrisystem.  I won’t lie and say that it’s been a piece of cake (although the carrot cake is delicious).

That’s no reflection on Nutrisystem, it’s all me.  Nutrisystem works!  When I stick to the plan I lose weight.  When being the operative word here…

Sticking to the plan has proven challenging for me.   It’s taken me awhile to find a balance of eating off a menu for work lunches and social situations, indulging myself in small ways so I don’t rebel and binge, and yet sticking to the Nutrisystem plan enough to still lose weight.  There have been some ups and downs on the scale – all the ups directly correlating to me cheating- all the downs directly correlating to how well I stick to the Nutrisystem plan.

If you have stronger will power than I do, you would see much higher losses, but I got myself fat into this situation by indulging myself and it’s taken me awhile to give up those habits.

I think I’ve figured it out now though.  That’s not to say I won’t continue in a two steps forward, one step back fashion – but I do believe I’ve finally figured out how to have a steady (if rocky) weight loss.

The key things I’ve learned?

  • Choose protein snacks to curb my appetite (cheese sticks, lunch meat, boiled eggs).
  • Eat salads if eating in a restaurant.
  • Avoid alcohol.
  • If craving carbs or sweets, eat a Nutrisystem meal or dessert.

Nutrisystem Foods

One of the things I really like about the Nutrisystem plan is that it includes carbohydrates (pastas, bagels, pancakes, french toast) and desserts (ice cream, cookies, chocolate, cake).  I tried Atkins ages ago and although the results were good, I ultimately couldn’t stick with it for long because I missed pastas and breads and dessert – but Nutrisystem allows me to have those things!

Another reason I think that I’m finally on track with losing weight is that I’ve found the Nutrisystem foods that I really like.   Every person is going to be different so don’t be afraid to venture off this list, but I thought you may be interested in knowing what I ordered last month.

I am on the Select Plan which includes 18 days of pantry ready food and 10 days of frozen foods.   The frozen foods are definitely my favorites, so I highly recommend you choose the Select Plan if you decide to try out Nutrisystem.  Here’s what’s included in the 10 day frozen package.

With Nutrisystem’s current sale, you save 40% making this package only $310!  Fabulous value when you consider this includes all your foods (including protein shakes) AND the weight loss program.

Food isn’t the only part of the equation though, exercising 3 times a week has been key for me.  I love how strong I feel as I’m getting more fit.  I especially love that I am able to keep up with my kids for longer now and actually think playing tag or soccer with them sounds like fun rather than something to avoid because I’ll be breathless in a matter of minutes.

My go-to exercise is running the Couch to 5K program.  My current goal is to sign up for a second 5K sometime in September and finish it more quickly than I completed my first 5K.

But I allow flexibility too.  For example, this week I jogged one day of Couch to 5K, but then went on a hike with some friends for 4th of July to Lake Isabelle.  It was about 5 miles there and back and a few hundred feet of elevation change.  I brought along my trusty Nutrisystem water bottle of course!

The third exercise was playing soccer with my 4 year old and some other kids while waiting for my son to finish soccer practice.  No, not the same as pumping iron at the gym or pounding pavement for a run, but exercise all the same.  And the key to getting fit and losing weight is moving more – whatever that means to you.  Just make sure you are moving.

My Week 8 Goals (7/8 to 7/14)

  • Exercise 3 times.
  • Follow Nutrisystem plan a minimum of 4 days.
  • Stick to good food choices – limited carbs and lots of water.
My goals are working for me so I’m going to stick to them again this week.  I am traveling to Atlanta for work for 3 days so sticking to my food choices may be challenging, but I fully intend to use the hotel gym and try to pick salads and low sugar/carb foods while on the road.
I also have to overcome some cheating I did last night (ice cream and alcohol) that I don’t think is showing on the scale yet, so I have a week to lose enough to make up for whatever last night made me gain.  That whole treating pounds like weeds visual seems to work for me.
Do you have any tricks or tips that you use to help you visualize losing weight?

  1. I’m glad that Nutri-Systems is working for you. I personally thought the food was kind of yucky and abandoned ship right away. We are going Paleo (most of the time) and that seems to be working pretty well. I signed up for a running program as well but I think overly ambitious – 1/2 marathon?! What was I thinking! I do plan on getting in a few 5 or 10K’s under my belt before I even attempt 13.1 miles. If it is meant to be, then it is meant to be. Weight loss will be secondary – getting fit and finishing the race would be primary and anything that falls off in the process will be the proverbial cherry on top. Wishing you well in your weight loss and fitness journey!

    • Hi Suzanne,

There are certain foods that I don’t care for, for sure. What I found funny is that I have some friends on Nutrisystem right now too and the foods I like are the ones they don’t like and the ones I don’t like are their favorites!

I guess everyone has different tastebuds, but I have found my selections that I really like and look forward to eating – have you tried the chocolate chip walnut cookies or the cheesy mashed potatoes?

    • That is the same attitude I have Suzanne. When I think of my goal for running as fitness I am much more likely to do it than for weight loss – weight loss I keep thinking I’ll make up tomorrow or something, but fitness is just keeping going.

What is Paleo? I’d love to hear more.

LOL – well with the half marathon, I say that you need to set goals to push yourself and that sounds like a great goal! Just schedule it far enough out that it’s reasonable to be ready in time so you don’t get discouraged.

Thanks for the reminder, I really need to pick my next 5K here soon…

    • It was! I was out of breath waaaay before they were, but they loved playing with me and I felt like I was being a “good mom” while also getting fit, win-win. :)
