Fitness Goals Challenge – Week 9

Winning Attitude

So much of whether you succeed or fail depends on your attitude.  This holds true in all things, not just fitness or weight loss, so I thought it would be worth discussing today.

See that image at the top of the page?  I needed the reminder today.

The reminder that:

I am awesome.

I am wonderful.

I am a hell of a mother.

I needed this, for reasons I don’t want to get into, but everyone has days or moments when they need more emotional encouragement than others.  This happens to be one of those days for me.

I find that my “self-talk” – how I talk to myself in my head – makes a huge difference to my attitude and my ability to be strong.   Reading inspirational words like the above helps put me in the right frame of mind.  I also have some songs that resonate right now that help get my mind in the right place.

One is Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You) by Kelly Clarkson.  The other is Stronger by Mandisa.

I heard one of them on the radio one day (still can’t tell you which) so searched for songs with Stronger in the title.  I found and like both of these. Not sure if either is the song I originally heard though! Guess it really doesn’t matter much.

What does this have to do with weight loss?

Well, the same tactics hold true for putting your head in the right spot with getting fit and losing weight as with other areas of your life.  Some tools to help set your mind or prompt your motivation include:

  • Post a saying or photo on the fridge and/or the bathroom mirror that motivates you.
  • Create a pinterest board with sayings and photos that create the mood you want to encourage.
  • Create a playlist of music that motivates/energizes you.
  • Write down WHY you want to be fit or lose weight.  Laminate it and put it somewhere prominent.
  • Pay attention to aroma – what smells bring good/energizing memories?

What tips and tricks do you have for getting your mind in the right place?

Week 8 Report (7/8 to 7/15)

I traveled to Atlanta for work for 3 days and was remarkably good the first day and a half.  I even packed my Nutrisystem food to eat while on the road!

It was super easy to bring my protein shakes, breakfast, dessert and lunch selections in my suitcase.  If I’d known there was a microwave in my room, I could have brought dinner too.  And I actually realized there is usually a microwave in the breakfast area of most hotels that I could use in the future.

But for this trip I assumed I’d have work dinners lined up, so only brought my breakfast and lunches.  It worked out really well and was super easy to bring along my food.

If you try out Nutrisystem and plan to travel, I recommend buying some of the lunch bars (chocolate and caramel or trail mix are a couple of the options) because they are super easy to grab and go – no matter if it’s to a soccer game or packing for a trip.  Tasty too!

The first night I jogged to Target (1.6 miles away) and bought some healthy snacks and walked them home.  By the way, I post about this kind of stuff on facebook a bit if you want to follow along on a more daily basis.

I was so proud of myself for going out in the Georgia heat and humidity and forcing myself to run – up hills no less!  Not like the foothills here in Colorado, but hills nonetheless.  I even went swimming when I got back, mostly to wash the stickiness and sweat off, but I did 20 laps while in there.

Unfortunately I didn’t exercise again when I got home and allowed myself to indulge in some comfort food for the rest of the week (apple fritter, philly cheese steak, etc).  I was super impressed that I managed to keep my weight gain down to only 0.6lbs though! Totally credit that to following Nutrisystem for breakfast and lunch even if I slipped up at dinner.

Weight Loss Results

  • Last Week’s Weight – 208.0
  • Week 7 Results – plus 0.6
  • Current Weight – 208.6
  • Total Loss – 14.4 lbs

I didn’t meet my goals, but I thought that might be the case with traveling and my stress level.  I am still under the 210 mark and with a regular schedule this week expect to start seeing downward moving numbers again.

  1. I actually surpassed my goals for Week 8. I walked 6 days instead of my goal for 5 days and I worked out 3 times during the week. I’m very excited. I’m feeling like I really want to walk every day not, it’s not so much a chore as it was when I first started. My goal for Week 9 is the same: Walk 2 miles 6 days and workout 3 time duing the week!
