Did you know there are FREE recycling containers provided by the City of Westminster that are open to the public? They are located on 88th between Sheridan and Wadsworth – just West of Harlan. The containers are mixed use, which means you don’t have to sort your recycling – just dump it all in!
So, the mini Money Smart Tip here is that we used to pay $5 per month for recycling from our trash service ~ $60 per year. Not a lot of money, but I was becoming quite frustrated after they reduced recycling pick up to every other week. We were perpetually forgetting which week was recycling and having our recycling cans overflowing before we’d finally get on track.
I finally just cancelled it out of frustration, but the environmental guilt of not recycling was too much to bear. While lamenting my woes (aka avoiding work), a colleague that lives near me mentioned these containers. She and her husband use them regularly. Score!
For me, this is directly on my way to work, so it is quite easy to stop and drop off a box or two once or twice a week depending on how much we have to recycle. Or you could wait until you are going to Home Depot, Petco, Dollar Tree, Ross or any of the other nearby stores and just add recycling to your to-do list.
If you live in an HOA, most likely recycling is included as part of your monthly fees – but you can always use these containers as a backup, or after Christmas with all that cardboard that accumulates!
They accept the normal stuff:
They do not accept plastic bags. My tip for plastic bags is to put them into my reusable totes and then I have them with me to recycle when I am at Walmart or Target or the grocery store (assuming I remember to bring my totes in with me).
