An *Intentional* 2014

An *Intentional* 2014

It seems everywhere I look I’m seeing posts about selecting a word to define 2014.  The simplicity and focus of choosing one word resonated with me.  So I started thinking about my word.  What one word summarizes what I want this new year, this fresh start, this future of mine to be?

It’s no secret that the past few years have been doozies for me.  Just making it through to see the light at the end of the tunnel was a challenge.   In retrospect I’d say my defining word up to this point has been surrender.  Because when the winds of life are throwing you around like a play thing, the only way to make it through is to surrender.

But that’s over for now.  I not only see the light at the end of the tunnel, but I’m standing in it, basking in the glow, raising my face to the sun.

And with the renewed energy that comes after time soaking up the sun, I’m ready to tackle the year.  Not surrender to the tides of fate, but make intentional choices to get me closer to the future I envision.

Intentional to me means having a plan.  Identifying an end goal and then breaking it down into the steps needed to get there.  So, for the following areas of my life I’m creating a plan.

  • Fitness & Health
  • Organizing My Home
  • Finances
  • Blogging
  • Parenting
  • Foods We Eat
  • Self Improvement

I’ll share my specific goals and my plan to get there in another post.  Until then, what is your one word for 2014?  To which areas of your life are you applying it?

  1. I love this word — not only for you, but maybe as a sub-word for me!

I am excited to see where “intention” takes you in each of these areas of your life.

My word is “hero.” As in not waiting for one and being my own.

  2. Go you! You have had a bit of a doozy of a time with the shit life has thrown at you. You are still walking with grace IMHO. For me it took a few days into the new year to even think of a word and mine is PREPARE. It is so easy to get mired in routine and mess with little kids but there is no reason not to be prepared for anything from the important stuff to the plain old silly stuff and I want a lot of silly in my life this year.

  3. Thanks Kia, you made me smile :). Silly is a good thing for sure! I need to be adding more plain ole’ fun to my life too. Not just for me, but for me with my kids. Getting mired in the routine and mess is SO easy to do and I think I get stuck there too easily some times.

Let’s go get silly together! :)
